Scar Removal, Scar Revision
Whether it’s from a surgical procedure, injury, burn or other cause, unsightly scars occur and we all know that scars are permanent. Fortunately, there are many modalities that can improve both the appearance and function of scars including surgical revision, lasers, injectable fillers, intense pulsed light, topical treatments, medication injections, and collagen induction therapy. At Total Aesthetics ™
we are pleased to offer a comprehensive array of the latest scar treatments designed to make a scar as inconspicuous as possible, either at home or within the comfort and safety of our office.
We’re especially pleased to offer treatment of scars (including notoriously difficult to treat acne scars) and stretch marks with advanced collagen induction therapy utilizing DermaPen® and INTRAcel®, with or without the addition of platelet rich plasma (PRP).
While treatment is always individualized, we believe that our surgical technique utilizing meticulous, multi-layered closures incorporation self-retaining sutures, combined with postoperative use of the Silagen Scar Refinement System or Embrace® from Neodyne Biosciences, collagen induction therapy and other modalities where indicated, offers our patients state-of-the-art scar management.
What is a scar revision?
Scar revision refers to a group of procedures designed to improve the appearance of a scar. Generally, the existing scar is removed and replaced with a new scar designed to be smoother and less noticeable. It’s important to note that scars are unpredictable and there are many variables, including how your body heals, that can affect the severity of scarring. Because of this, the results of scar revision can never be predicted with certainty or guaranteed.
Scar Removal/Revision FAQ
What is Embrace® Advanced Scar Therapy?
Embrace® is a breakthrough scar management technology that delivers mechano-modulation therapy to the injury site and surrounding tissues. The product’s unique mechanism of action shields the wound from mechanical stress that helps prevent collagen proliferation and minimizes scar formation. Embrace utilizes a single-use adhesive silicone sheet to create an external stress shield on the wound.
What is Collagen Induction Therapy?
Collagen Induction Therapy utilizes a technique known as “microneedling” to improve the appearance of a scar by stimulating the growth of new collagen. Recently radiofrequency energy and platelet enriched plasma (PRP) has been combined with microneedling for enhanced results. Collagen Induction Therapy can also improve the appearance of damaged, aged skin. At Total Aesthetics ™ Fraxel Dual, Dermapen® and INTRAcel®, the world’s most advanced collagen induction system as well as PRP, are used to improve the appearance of scars, including acne scars, and also for aesthetic skin rejuvenation.
What is a keloid?
In some cases, scars can grow abnormally and create an unsightly raised scar known as a keloid or hypertrophic scar. These types of scars are often first treated with medications but in some cases surgical removal results in an improved aesthetic result.
Are scars permanent?
Yes. While today’s technology can minimize the appearance of scars, we do not have the ability to actually eliminate scarring.
Can Fraxel® help scars?
Treatment with the Fraxel® laser system can improve the appearance of scars, including acne scars, and we’re pleased to offer our patients treatments with the state-of-the-art Fraxel® Dual laser.
