At Total Aesthetics we are pleased to offer a comprehensive array of the latest scar treatments designed to make a scar as inconspicuous as possible, either at home or within the comfort and safety of our office.

We’re especially pleased to offer treatment of scars (including notoriously difficult-to-treat acne scars) and stretch marks with advanced collagen induction therapy utilizing the ProFractional laser from Sciton, with or without the addition of platelet rich plasma (PRP).

While scar treatment is always individualized, we believe that our surgical technique utilizing meticulous, multi-layered closures, sometimes incorporating self-retaining sutures, combined with postoperative use of the Silagen Scar Refinement System or Embrace from Neodyne Biosciences, collagen induction therapy and other modalities where indicated, offers our patients state-of-the-art scar treatment.

What is a scar revision?

Scar revision refers to a group of procedures designed to improve the appearance of a scar.

Generally, the existing scar is removed and replaced with a new scar designed to be smoother and less noticeable. It’s important to note that scars are permanent and unpredictable and there are many variables, including how your body heals, that can affect the severity of scarring. Because of this, the results of scar revision can never be predicted with certainty or guaranteed.

What is Embrace advanced scar therapy?

Embrace is a breakthrough scar management technology that delivers mechano-modulation therapy to the injury site and surrounding tissues. The product’s unique mechanism of action shields the wound from mechanical stress to help prevent collagen proliferation and minimize scar formation. Embrace utilizes a single-use, adhesive silicone sheet to create an external stress shield on the wound. At Total Aesthetics in Westport scar treatment is handled wonderfully with this breakthrough therapy.

What is collagen induction therapy?

Collagen Induction Therapy involves creation of a microinjury within a scar in order to improve its appearance by stimulating the growth of new collagen. The microinjury is most commonly created with a laser or microneedling device and recently radiofrequency energy and platelet enriched plasma (PRP) have been utilized for enhanced results. Collagen Induction Therapy can also improve the appearance of damaged, aged skin. At our Med Spa in Westport stretch marks, acne scars and other types can undergo scar treatment with Sciton’s Profractional laser, Morpheus 8, CollagenPen as well as PRP. These technologies are also used for aesthetic skin rejuvenation.

What is a keloid?

In some cases, scars can grow abnormally and create an unsightly raised scar known as a keloid or hypertrophic scar. These types of scars are often first treated with medications but in some cases surgical removal results in an improved aesthetic result. We strive to provide the best scar removal Westport has to offer.

Are scars permanent?

Yes. While today’s technology can minimize the appearance of scars, we do not have the ability to actually eliminate scarring, even with the best equipment in scar removal, scar revision Westport has to offer.
