What is Photorejuvenation?

This term, which literally means rejuvenating the skin with light, is usually applied to procedures employing intense pulsed light (IPL) and related technologies.

Unlike lasers that utilize monochromatic light, IPL employs light of various wavelengths to improve the appearance of photo-aged skin and reduce the visibility of most benign brown pigments and redness caused by capillaries.

At Total Aesthetics, We’re Photorejuvenation Experts

Photorejuvenation with intense pulsed light can address uneven pigmentation including sun spots, age spots and photodamage. IPL has significant anti-aging benefits and it can also help with vascular issues like superficial vessels, spider veins, flushing and Rosacea.

We are the only practice in the NorthEast to offer photorejuvenation with both Sciton Balanced Broadband Light (BBL) as well as the new Lumecca system from InMode Aesthetic Solutions.

Lumecca is a breakthrough technology that delivers up to 3x more energy in the critical 500-600 nm range for improved efficacy in treating vascular and pigmented lesions.

We follow the BBL techniques of the originator of the photofacial, Dr. Patrick Bitter, Jr and we utilize Sciton’s SkinTyte and BBL technology to optimize our results, tighten skin and treat acne. We’re also at the forefront of the latest techniques that utilize BBL to treat joint pain and for the enhancement of sexual function.

Because photorejuvenation utilizes light encompassing a broad spectrum of wavelengths there are many potential benefits and multiple skin conditions can be treated. Pigmented lesions such as freckles, age spots, sun spots, melasma and blotchy pigmentation, along with vascular lesions, including spider veins and Rosacea, are commonly treated. IPL photorejuvenation also reduces fine lines and wrinkles as it gently stimulates collagen production. IPL has also been utilized to reduce the embarrassment of flushing and it can help diminish the appearance of some scars. Scion’s game-changing SkinTyte technology can tighten and firm skin almost anywhere on the body with virtually no downtime. Some new applications for SkinTyte include treating the joint pain associated with arthritis and enhancement of sexual function for both men and women.

What areas can be treated with IPL?

Photorejuvenation can be used to treat the face, neck, chest, arms and hands – almost anywhere that sun damage is seen. Photorejuvenation of the face is often referred to as a “photo facial.” Recently IPL technology has been used to treat joint pain from arthritis, help manage acne and also to enhance sexual function.

Is there down time with photorejuvenation?

What is a PhotoFacial?

The term photofacial is a generic term that refers to treating the face as a whole with intense pulsed light, also known as IPL, as opposed to treating more limited areas. The term FotoFacial was coined by Dr. Patrick Bitter, Jr. to describe his technique for treating the entire face with Sciton’s broadband intense pulsed light (BBL). This is a registered trademark and the correct term is “FotoFacial®” when referencing Dr. Bitter’s techniques that utilize broadband light (BBL) to rejuvenate the skin with no downtime. By adjusting the fine details of each treatment, FotoFacial technology can be used almost anywhere on the body including face, neck, arms, legs, hands and vulva.

At Total Aesthetics we strive to deliver the best photofacials and other techniques in photorejuventaion Westport and all of Fairfield County has to offer. We’ve been trained by Dr. Bitter and we utilize Sciton broadband light, also known as BBL, technology to successfully rejuvenate skin throughout the face and body.
