About Plastic Surgeon Dr. Joseph B. O'Connell
Dr. Joseph O'Connell is a highly respected aesthetic plastic
surgeon. He is a Connecticut native and a graduate of Cornell
University Medical College. Following this he completed his training
in General Surgery at St. Vincent's Medical Center. He has been
board certified in general surgery as well as plastic surgery
and this extensive general surgery background provides him with
a thorough understanding of the safety issues needed for today's
advanced plastic surgical techniques.
Overview
 Dr.
O'Connell's residency training was at the prestigious New York
Hospital/Cornell Medical Center. He is an expert in breast
augmentation, breast reduction
and breast reconstruction,
having spent part of his training at Memorial Sloan Kettering
Cancer Center. In 1999 Dr. O'Connell's article entitled, "Optimizing
Aesthetic Results in Breast Reduction," was published.
Since 1995 Dr. O'Connell has served as Chief of Plastic Surgery
at Bridgeport Hospital in Bridgeport, CT. (Bridgeport Hospital
is a major teaching affiliate of Yale University and is a Level
I Trauma Center). Dr. O'Connell was the first surgeon in Connecticut
to integrate ultrasonic liposuction
into the practice of plastic surgery, and he has lectured as a
visiting professor on this topic.
As a Fellow of the American Society for Laser Medicine and Surgery,
Dr. O'Connell is one of the very few surgeons in the country to
offer laser resurfacing with both the pulsed Erbium and Derma-K™
lasers. Plastic Surgery of Southern Connecticut is the only plastic
surgical practice in Connecticut to offer hair
removal with both the Coherent LightSheer™ and ESC Medical
Vasculight Plus™ lasers.
Dr. O'Connell is at the forefront of the latest procedures in
facial rejuvenation and diminishing wrinkles including transconjunctival
blepharoplasties, brow
lifts, fat transfers, liposculpture,
chemical peels, Dermalogen™,
and Botox. Dr. O'Connell serves on the
Board of two medical journals and in 1999 his article on the "Baby
Boomer Facelift™" was published. This has received
considerable media attention and illustrates Dr. O'Connell's observations
and techniques for facial rejuvenation in those aged 54 and under.
In early 2000 Dr. O'Connell's article on combining transconjunctival
blepharoplasty with laser resurfacing was published and he continues
to offer his patients the latest, safest and most effective techniques
in plastic surgery. Dr. O'Connell believes that all aesthetic
surgery should be conservative in nature and performed under local
anesthesia whenever possible.
