The Aesthetic Center is proud to become the first facility in Connecticut to offer the new PicoWay laser from Syneron-Candela®. This is an exciting breakthrough in laser technology for both tattoo removal and skin rejuvenation. With its unique triple wavelength technology PicoWay is actually 3 lasers in one and its ultra-short picosecond pulses allow removal of most tattoo ink colors for all skin types. This novel technology also allows us to treat pigmented lesions as well as to provide a unique type of skin rejuvenation with essentially no downtime. PicoWay is available in our Westport, Connecticut office.
According to a report in the August, 2014 issue of Aesthetic Surgery Journal, cryolypolysis (CoolSculpting® from Zeltiq Aesthetics) can provide significant skin tightening in the abdomen, flank and buttock areas. In the article, written by USC Clinical Professor Dr. Grant Stevens, two patients were presented.
In addition to the anticipated fat reduction, skin tightening in the treatment areas was observed with improvement of skin folds. With more than 8000 treatment cycles delivered, Dr. Stevens estimated the improvement in skin appearance following CoolSculpting at 25% of patients treated.
At present, it is unknown how predictable the skin-tightening results are, although the improvement may be independent of age or treatment area. Dr. Stevens has given the name “cryodermadostringo” to skin tightening from cryolypolysis.
A research study is currently underway to further study and measure skin tightening following CoolSculpting. Based on our two-year experience with CoolSculpting for women and for men, we would agree with Dr. Stevens’ preliminary findings.
Dr. O'Connell visited the legendary Dr. Zein Obagi in May of this year and spent two days learning the latest in advanced skin care.ZO Skin Health or shop in Dr. O'Connell's ZO Skin Health Store.
Bolstering their long-standing commitment to the environment, Dr. O'Connell and Lesley O’Connell, R.N. have completed their conversion to electric transportation!
The headquarters of Plastic Surgery of Southern Connecticut, L.L.C. consume no fossil fuels whatsoever (other than for emergency power generation) and now their overall carbon footprint is essentially invisible. At one point this afternoon there were three electric vehicles in our parking lot.
"This fits well with our overall plastic surgical philosophy of replacing like with like and using green & natural products wherever possible," stated Dr. O’Connell. A good example of this is our preference for hyaluronic acid-based facial fillers. "HAs" are a natural component of our skin and it's always made sense to me to replace lost volume with products that are identical to what has been lost." Many patients don’t realize that the active ingredient of Botox and Dysport occurs naturally – "it’s not something that’s been cooked up in a lab," notes Dr. O’Connell, "Botox has been produced by bacteria for millions of years."
Sometimes no matter how much time you spend at the gym those annoying fatty bulges in the flanks (also known as love handles) remain. The good news is that you can now reduce those love handles with no surgery or downtime with CoolSculpting. CoolSculpting was developed by Harvard scientists and is an FDA-cleared, patented procedure that permanently eliminates unwanted fatty bulges by a new technology known as "cryolipolysis". There is no surgery, needles, scarring or need for anesthesia - following treatment your body naturally eliminates those unsightly bulges over just a few months. A typical treatment session takes one hour per side.
For Father's Day we are offering a special of $1,500 for treatment of both love handles with CoolSculpting. Any additional areas that you wish treated such as muffin tops or belly pooch are at 20% off.
Try the coolest solution to unwanted fat and say hello to a new you with CoolSculpting. You can read more about CoolSculpting and see additional before and after photos elsewhere on our website (click here).

Today is Mother's Day and we want to celebrate these eight ageless celebrity moms who range in age from 44 to 67 and look amazing! You don't have to be a celebrity to look fabulous though. Taking care of your skin, your body, and your health should start when you are young but it's never too late to make changes. Eating right, getting enough sleep, staying out of the sun, limiting alcohol consumption, and not smoking will help to keep you looking young but there are other things you can do as well.
We offer many non-surgical cosmetic procedures, which were in fact, some of the most popular procedures performed in the United States last year according to a recent article in Plastic Surgery News. Minimally invasive procedures like Botox, soft tissue fillers, photorejuvenation, laser hair removal, and microdermabrasion can take years off. Even a simple thing like longer, fuller lashes (with Latisse) will open up the eye (curl those lashes before putting on mascara for a total eye opener!) and have you feeling like a red-carpet celebrity!
Happy Mother's Day from all of us at Plastic Surgery of Southern Connecticut!

Maybe you were lucky enough to be born with big beautiful eyes, but even if you were, as we age eyes end up looking smaller. There is always upper lid and lower lid surgery to help open up the eye and have it appear bigger and younger looking, but if you are not ready for that option here are some great tips to help your peepers pop and make your eyes look bigger!
Curling works wonders in opening up the eye. Find a good eyelash curler and use it before applying mascara. Straight lashes cast a shadow on the eye area so curling is a trick you should use every day.
Mascara opens the eye up and there are many great mascaras on the market to lengthen and make lashes fuller. Steer clear of using too much mascara on bottom lashes though.
Line your upper and lower lash line from the center of the lash line out, making it thicker as you go towards the outer edge of the eye. Lining the entire eye can look great for that smokey eye effect but will make your eyes look smaller.
LIGHTEN THE WATERLINE
Lining the inside of the eyes with a white liner will open up the eye area. Again, dark pencil in this area looks fabulous for that dark, smokey eye but will make them appear smaller.
USE HIGHLIGHTER AND CONCEALER
Brighten under the brow bone with highlighter as well as the center of the lids. Using a highlighter at the inner corners of the eye helps lighten and brighten too. Use concealer for under eye circles.
GET A PROFESSIONAL EYEBROW SHAPING
Having a pro clean up stray hairs above and below is essential. The eyebrow frames the eye so having it groomed with a proper arch will make a huge difference!
Latisse® is proven to grow lashes longer and fuller which will make your eyes look amazingly bigger! Go to the Latisse section on our website to learn more!
We are also offering 20% off our Obagi Nu-Derm® System through Mother's Day as well!
