 Dr.
Joseph O'Connell is a highly respected aesthetic plastic surgeon.
He is a Connecticut native and a 1981 graduate of Cornell University
Medical College. Following medical school he completed his training
in General Surgery at St. Vincent’s Medical Center and earned
his board certification in General Surgery from the American Board
of Surgery. This extensive background in general surgery provides
him with a thorough understanding of the safety issues needed
for today’s advanced plastic surgical techniques.
Dr. O'Connell's plastic surgery residency training was at the
prestigious New York Hospital/Cornell Medical Center. He was certified
by the American Board of Plastic Surgery in 1992. Dr. O'Connell
is a member of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons and he
has served on their public education committee. He is also a member
of the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (the leading
organization of plastic surgeons certified by the American Board
of Plastic Surgery who specialize in cosmetic surgery of the face
and body. Membership in the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic
Surgery means that a board-certified plastic surgeon has met the
highest standards for education and experience in cosmetic surgery).
Dr. O'Connell has earned the Certificate of Advanced Education
in Cosmetic Surgery, issued by the American Society for Aesthetic
Plastic Surgery.
Dr. O'Connell served as Chief of Plastic Surgery at Bridgeport
Hospital (a major teaching affiliate of Yale University) from
1995 through 2002. He is an expert on breast augmentation and
reduction, having spent part of his training at the Memorial Sloan
Kettering Cancer Center. Dr. O'Connell has published two articles
on the topic of breast reduction. He was the first plastic surgeon
in Connecticut to integrate ultrasonic
liposuction into the practice of aesthetic surgery and he
has lectured as a visiting professor on this topic. Dr. O'Connell
has been widely quoted in the media and he has twice been featured
on the national television show Inside Edition performing
ultrasonic liposuction for gynecomastia and otoplasty for correction
of protruding ear deformities. He has also performed a short-scar
facelift on Channel 12.
Dr. O'Connell is at the forefront of the latest procedures in
facial rejuvenation, breast surgery and body contouring including
short-scar facelifts, transconjunctival
blepharoplasty, BOTOX®,
chemical peels and injectable fillers. Skin care programs custom
designed for each patient are offered as well. Dr. O'Connell has
written two articles on facelifts, and published two additional
articles on eyelid rejuvenation utilizing laser resurfacing. Dr.
O'Connell believes that all aesthetic surgery should be conservative
in nature and he prefers to utilize local anesthesia whenever
possible.
